The homeowners wanted to design an addition to make the living area larger and to add a guest suite. We bumped out part of the front of the house to allow for a new guest suite including a bathroom and a private entry. We also pushed out the side of the house which made the kitchen, dining and living room larger. Because we lost one wall of windows in the living room, we added two skylights to bring light and ventilation into the living area.

We extended the roof above the entry to better frame the front patio while keeping the existing entry steps. Painted wood siding and a planter below the guest suite windows helps to bring some charm and softness to the exterior. Paired with the exposed beams and detail trim pieces on the new porch overhang, a vintage-style French door, and antique wall sconces, the exterior of the house will better relate to the homeowner’s style.
