project description:
This short-term rental project combines vintage-inspired finds with modern touches, creating an inviting space for travelers. Swipe through and read below to see how we balanced budget and durability, while adding unique personality to each room.
The duplex, originally built in 1910, is located in a historic neighborhood in the heart of Niagara Falls, NY - about a half mile from the falls observation tower. The owners came to me with the goal of creating an inviting and attractive atmosphere while staying within their tight budget. With all the surrounding history, I knew we had to bring some character back into this home. The bedroom furniture selections are a combination of vintage and modern items. The art and window drapes are intended to bring in historical patterns and colors. The simple metal bed frames pair well with the modern bed linens and side tables. The table lamps vary from room to room to add to the unique feel of each room.
The materials were selected with durability in mind as the home will host many travelers. The metal bed frames and side tables will hold up well over time. White bed linens were chosen for their hotel-like feel and to allow the owners to bleach them if needed. Two sets of pillows with varying comfort levels on each bed and darkening shades will create comfort away from home. The throw pillow covers are all washable and tassels were avoided on all linens as they tangle and become ruined when washed frequently. Each room has a different bed spread which brings more color and texture into the room while providing an extra layer of comfort for the home's visitors.
