The homeowner wanted to convert the existing garage into an accessory dwelling unit (ADU) without affecting the existing main house. We kept the existing main house entry door and tucked the ADU entry door on the side of the house. A new fence and patio at the ADU entry allows for a bit of privacy and an outdoor living space. The hidden ADU entry door and the windows on the front of the unit allow the new unit to blend with the existing house. A planter along the front of the house provides a barrier between the unit and the cars parked in the driveway. Windows on three sides of the unit allow for cross-ventilation and ample natural lighting in the open concept studio layout. A skylight in the bathroom provides natural light in the bathroom and allows heat to escape out of the unit.
